Just to let you know the 'Current Firmware Version': 05.05.34 is actually application software version running on the PC. It would really helpful to have the firmware version, which you can find by doing 'Help/About Cleverscope'. It is generally a 4 digit number.

<description>Hi,  I have one of the original CS328 units.  I have just downloaded software version 5.05.40 because it says it supports all units and from Win 10 on.  I'm using Win 10.  I was excited because it say it supports calibration for all models.  But upon running it, I find it doesn't support calibration for my unit!  I have to use old software to do the calibration.  But when I run the newly calibrated scope against the latest software, the trace has a small dc offset.  I had the same issue with 5.05.38 and was hopeful the latest version could calibrate my scope.  Have you dropped support for my old scope?  </description>

You are quite right. If using Coax in the frequency range &amp;lt;1MHz, you don't need a termination, but you do need to keep the coax short, so any ringing is well above your passband. The main deal is shielding.

I agree, your main goal is to measure the Hall sensor and filter, not the Y caps. Maybe removing them is a good plan. You could also check how they change the response.

Understood about only using 1x probes to measure and not to source signals. My concern with using coax for measurements is ringing if not properly terminated.  It looks like the CS320A-FRA doesn't have built in 50&amp;Omega; terminations, but I could use an inline device.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The most important measurement is phase response at 1kHz.  Runnerup is attenuation near the sampling Nyquist frequency, which tops out at 300kHz.  The target is ~40dB, and most of this is from a post filter.  My best bet is probably to measure the hall sensor response in this range to ensure it's mostly flat, and then measure the post filter separately.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The hall sensors are isolated types.  I'm guessing the CS1070 I sense output common is connected to earth ground just like ground leads of the CS320 probes.  I'm of a mind to make board modifications to ensure no connection between the input and output sides of the hall sensors through Y capacitors or similar, just in case. Such things should be much higher impedance than the hall sensor pass element, but 300kHz is a long way from DC.

Thanks for your query. You can achieve what you want, but you will have to pay attention to maintaining SNR. Can you please tell me the frequency range you want to do the gain/phase over. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Here are some steps:
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Do a self cal on the CS320A-FRA to get good offsets. Click the CS1070 enable switch up to disable it. 
&lt;br /&gt;
2. Connect the Isense output on the CS1070 to the Chan A input, preferably with Coax. The I sense uses a 100m&amp;Omega; resistor to sense current, so 100mV/A, or like a 10x probe. Set the Chan A probe setting to 10x, and the Chan A units to (A) by overtyping in the Channel Control above the Scope Graph. In this way you can read Amps directly of the graph. 
&lt;br /&gt;
3. If the Hall Effect Sensor is floating, attach one side to the Out 1R signal, and the other side to the Out 1R common shield. It&amp;rsquo;s best to use Coax and pigtails. Do not use a 1x probe, there is a 300&amp;Omega; series resistance in it. 
&lt;br /&gt;
If the Hall Effect sensor is ground referred, connect the ground side to the I sense Output common. Take note of the schematic on the CS1070 lid &amp;ndash; Out1R is not ground referred. 
&lt;br /&gt;
4. Connect your sensor output (13.3mV/A) to Chan B. You can either use coax or a 1x probe. The probe will limit bandwidth to about 6 MHz, but you need the 1x setting to maintain SNR.
&lt;br /&gt;
If you want to read the sensor output in A, open Settings/Analog Names and units, and set the Pt. 2 pair for channel be to 13.3m   1, which will display in A. Change the Chan B units to (A). 
&lt;br /&gt;
5. Assuming both channels are displaying as A, adjust the range on both to be &amp;plusmn;1 A. You may need to vertically expand your scope display so it has 10 or 20 divisions. 
&lt;br /&gt;
6. Use View/FRA to see the Frequency Response Analysis panel, and click the top right button to FRA System ON. Set the current frequency to somewhere in your pass band &amp;ndash; eg 10 kHz. Set the Sig Gen Amp to 0.1V. Set the Start/Stop frequency range as you want, and set the other values. 
&lt;br /&gt;
7. Start capturing, with the scope graph setup to capture a cycle or two (100us width or more). Turn on the CS1070 by clicking the enable switch down. 
&lt;br /&gt;
8. Looking at the View/Signal Information adjust the offset to get about 0V DC on the A channel. 
&lt;br /&gt;
9. Now adjust the Sig gen up in 0.1V increments (position the cursor to the right of the 1/10ths digit, and use the up down keys on the keyboard) to get around 0.9A. You may need to go finer. If you are not getting fine enough control, you may need to put a 10 or 20 dB coax attenuator between the sig gen and the CS1070 input. 
&lt;br /&gt;
10. Once you have the Sig Gen amplitude and Offset set as you need, click the Start Sweep button. The app will adjust the time base and filters suitably. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I used a 9 &amp;Omega; load on Out 1R, and got the attached graphs. This wound up with an SNR of 38dB, allowing a 20 dB reduction in gain over the pass band before you run into too much noise.

<title>FRA of current measurement with CS1070 (post by sgleysti)</title>
<description>I'm looking to run frequency response analysis (gain/phase) on a current measurement signal chain where the current sensor is a hall effect type. The current sensor gain is fixed at 13.3mV/A and can't be modified externally, unlike a shunt + amplifier current measurement. Consequently, it seems like I need to use a signal source that can output an appreciable amount of current to perform the FRA.

I have a CS320A-FRA. Would the CS1070 be a good fit for this application? With the 1&amp;Omega; output, of course. &amp;plusmn;1Apk seems just large enough to get passable SNR throughout rest of the signal chain (hall effect current sensor output, post filters, etc.). I'd probably use the CS1070 current sense output for channel A and a 1x probe for channel B unless you have other suggestions.

The only other alternative that I can imagine is a wide bandwidth isolating transformer with a step down turns ratio, but I don't know if anyone makes something like that commercially.

<title>Channel 2 LED lighting red after starting scope (post by Booster)</title>

We are experiencing two issues with our Cleverscope CS548 after a recent firmware update, and we would appreciate your help.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Channel 2 LED lights sometimes red 
&lt;br /&gt;
After turning on the CS548, the device cycles through all colors. After this procedure Channel 2 sometimes stays solid red.
&lt;br /&gt;
- This happens even if we swap the cables or disconnect the external device entirely.
&lt;br /&gt;
- After power-cycling the Cleverscope multiple times (about 10 times), the LED finally turns green.
&lt;br /&gt;
- This issue existed before, but it became significantly worse after updating the firmware to Version 05.05.34.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2. Channel 1 Blue LED (we don&amp;rsquo;t know, if it was a failure)
&lt;br /&gt;
When we configure the Cleverscope via a Python script and select a trigger channel, the LED on Channel 1 turns blue.
&lt;br /&gt;
-We initially thought the blue LED indicates the selected trigger channel. However, even if we set Channel 2 or Channel 3 as the trigger channel, Channel 1 remains blue.
&lt;br /&gt;
-After the measurement finishes, Channel 1 switches back to green.
&lt;br /&gt;
-This behavior only started appearing after the latest firmware update.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Device &amp;amp; Software Details:
&lt;br /&gt;
Device: Cleverscope CS548 Hw-Version 5.1 (Sn: EW10200)
&lt;br /&gt;
Probes: Channel1:HP-9258 ; Channel2:CP-2250
&lt;br /&gt;
Previous Firmware Version (where red LED was less frequent): As supplied in 2022/2023
&lt;br /&gt;
Current Firmware Version: 05.05.34
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What could be the root cause of the Channel 2 boot issue? Is it a hardware tolerance/drift problem? And what could be the reason for the blue lighting LED?

I can't get the Ethernet-connection to work. I pluged the CS1042 in the slot and connected to a Ethernet/USB adapter. Tried also with a cross-over cable. I also tried with DHCP and with fixed IP-adresses. But I am not sure if the IP shown in Aquirer-Window ist the right one.

I can not find any Link-LEDs on the back lighting up.
&lt;br /&gt;
Is there a way to check whether the Cleverscope can even detect the CS1042?

<title>Vertical Scale for Small Signals (post by BMcG)</title>
<description>Just a minor oddity that I find a little annoying

At scales &amp;lt; 1mV the vertical scale starts to display in both mV &amp;amp; uV, rather than mV's &amp;amp; fractions of a mV

I just find this a bit confusing &amp;amp; think it would be better, less prone to confusion, if the scale retained the same units / div for the whole of the vertical scale

You don't see this confusion at the transition from V &amp;gt;mV, fractions of a V are used &amp;amp; there is a clean switch from fractions of a Volt to mV</description>

<description>It is not expected behaviour! Seems you have discovered a bug which we did not know about. We have been able to repeat it here, do not know why it is happening but have confirmed it is in the firmware and added it to our list of things to investigate.

The work-a-round is to leave the scope display on values - say 5mV - that do not cause the problem to appear and then drill in using the tracking graph as per the attached.

Alternatively, if you must work in the scope graph, you could set the Channel Time Alignment to compensate but that does have the risk of forgetting it is there.

If I switch the amplitude magnification of a channel from 2mV/div to 1mV/div this introduces a miss-alignment between the timing of the pulses on channels A &amp;amp; B of the order of 200nS if the second channel is at a magnification &amp;gt;1mV

Is this change in timing expected behaviour when the amplitude magnification of a channel is changed?</description>

We have had a few reports of this. However, we have not been able to reproduce it on 6 x Win 11 machines. 
&lt;br /&gt;
I have a couple of questions:
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Are you using the USB cable we supplied with the CS548? Some customers swapped to our one, and the problem went away. 
&lt;br /&gt;
2. Are you powering the CS548 off a different power supply to the one we provided. If so, is there a continuous earth between the negative connection of the plug into the CS548 and the mains earth pin?
&lt;br /&gt;
3. Are you able to send us your Windows 11 System Information summary page? Please email to support@cleverscope.com.

To restore the scope you will need to reflash it. This is done with an Altera USB Blaster.  If you don&amp;rsquo;t have one the fastest way is to buy one from Digikey:

we have a problem with our CS448 unit that seems to be bricked after attempting a firmware update. The update process did not complete successfully, and since then the device no longer starts up or appears in Cleverscope4. We&amp;rsquo;ve tried power?cycling and reconnecting it, but the scope does not show any signs of normal activity anymore.

Cleverscope4 also no longer detects the unit, so we cannot retry the firmware update or recover it through the software.

Any advice on how to revive the device would be greatly appreciated.

<title>CS548 Connection Instability on Windows 11 (post by JohJur)</title>

we&amp;rsquo;re having recurring connection issues with our CS548 units on Windows 11. Both Cleverscope4 and our Python scripts lose connection after a random number of acquisitions&amp;mdash;sometimes after just a few, sometimes after several thousands(we use USB). Once the disconnect happens, the software locks up and we must restart (power?cycle) the CS548 to make it usable again.
&lt;br /&gt;
We have tested two different CS548 devices on two separate Windows 11 PCs, and the issue occurs on all combinations. Firmware and Cleverscope4 are fully up to date. We did not see this behavior on Windows 10.
&lt;br /&gt;
Has anyone experienced similar instability on Windows 11, or knows of any related driver/compatibility issues?

<description>Unfortunately this is a tricky one. Our first ADC, made by Intersil, samples fine at 500 MSPS. However, it wants to do that with 3 serial lanes coming out. The data sheet did say operation with 2 lanes in packed form would also work, so that's what we went for. Most of the ADC we have tried (all the ones here for example), work just fine. But there are some that don't. It seems to be a problem of the transceiver.

&lt;br /&gt;
We changed to an Analog Devices ADC just after Covid, and it has no problems working at 500 MSPS on two lanes (that is what it is designed to do).

&lt;br /&gt;
We will revisit this to see if there is anything more we can do. But for the moment, the fallback is 76xx, as you have done. In your case, one of the ADC's is problematic, while 3 are fine. I agree this is annoying.

I have got some problems after upgrading the firmware to 7769 / 7770:
&lt;br /&gt;
* Channel A shows some random HF noise with 12V peak;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Channel D is forcibly off (red LED) with values frozen and does not react to controls.
&lt;br /&gt;
The behavior is the same with and without probes connected. Channels B and C seem to work normally.
&lt;br /&gt;

thanks for the question. Unfortunately this is not a very good way to measure the noise floor. I attach a document 'CS328A Noise Floor', that describes what I found with the CS328A sitting on my shelf. I see some artifacts I had not expected, but they are small.

Answering your post:
&lt;br /&gt;
1. It is not good to short the input with copper wire. This will make an antenna which will pick up all the local radio stations, which will alias into the displayed spectral frequency range. It is better to have the inputs open, or to short with a 50 Ohm BNC terminator. Open is easiest. 
&lt;br /&gt;
2. I don't see much point in sampling so slowly, for so long. First any higher frequency alias products  will alias back into the displayed FFT. Secondly there is a better way!  Use the built in Spectrum Analyser and use that to display the noise floor. The document shows how.

Using a copper wire, I shorted the BNC inputs of both channels.

The sampling rate was 20kHz and the measurement time was 5ks.

I have attached the power spectral density of the measurements, including the two units and the channels A and B.

As you can see, Cleverscope 2 shows a flat noise floor for both channels, whereas Cleverscope 1 shows a rising noise floor.

While I only attached one set of measurements, I have also observed a rising noise floor in Cleverscope 2.

Also, it would be great if you could comment on the origin of the harmonics observed in the noise peaks, as I am a beginner.

That is not good and not something we have seen before. Can you tell me what version of windows and our application you are using? The ftdi driver is not used to connect to the CS448 so not clear why it is even involved.

Since it occurred after a power failure I would suggest first doing some disk management - first 
&lt;br /&gt;
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth  
&lt;br /&gt;
followed by 
&lt;br /&gt;
sfc /scannow
&lt;br /&gt;
and a restart
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Even a chkdsk might be worth trying.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On my laptop I removed the ftdi drivers using an administrative terminal -
&lt;br /&gt;
First find the driver package name -pnputil /enum-drivers
&lt;br /&gt;
Look for ftdibus in the list &amp;mdash; it will show an oemXX.inf name (e.g. oem151.inf). Then remove it using
&lt;br /&gt;
pnputil /delete-driver oem151.inf /uninstall /force
&lt;br /&gt;
The application connected to my CS448 fine without them.- - note that they are also used for Arduino boards etc as well. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There may be more than one of them.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Python should not be causing an issue but you will have had to re-install the drivers along with the application - however, not doing so would not cause a blue screen. When installing, do not click on the option to install the legacy driver for the CS328 - it is not required. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Let me know how you go. Once I have your software version I can do a bit more checking here on a test unit.

<description>Previously, we have been using the cleverscope software, as well as the python interface, which all worked great. Recently, whenever we try to choose/connect to an acquirer, the computer immediately blue screens and shuts down. We get error codes like ftdibus.sys file failed, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. I have opened the .dmp file produced from the crash and seen that it is caused by something in the cleverscope.exe but cant seem to hunt down the problem. I have fulling uninstalled the software and drivers, then reinstalled the multichannel install .zip file and rerun the setup file, but nothing changes. I am using a CS448 scope. are there additional drivers I need to reinstall upon re setup to make everything happy again, or perhaps something with my python dll was misconfigured or left connected during a recent power outage potentially causing issues (this outage was most likely the time when our issues began).

The simplest way is to place two markers on the peaks of the signal you want to measure, and then the frequency is the inverse of the time difference. You will see this displayed as Freq: in the Tracer and Marker area above the graph.

To place markers, click somewhere on the Display to make it active. 
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Move the tracer to the point you want to place Marker 1. The tracer is the little black blob on the Tracer channel. Click Tab to move to the next Tracer channel, or click somewhere in the name box in the Axis definition above the graph. That will move the tracer to that channel. 
&lt;br /&gt;
Click either the 1 numeric key, the space bar, or double click to make a Marker. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2. Move the tracer to the second point. The tracer can be on different channels if you want. 
&lt;br /&gt;
Click either the 2 numeric key, the space bar, or double click to make the second marker. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Tracer, and Marker positions (amplitude, time) appear in the Tracer/Marker area. The Freq, dV and dt are displayed in the next column to the right. 
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you want the signal information to only show information about the segment of signal from Marker 1 to Marker 2, click the 'Between M1--&amp;gt;M2 markers' option on.
