I used CS320FRA for PFC (power factor correction) and DC-DC converter control loop measurement. The loop crossover frequency of PFC is typically around 8-20 Hz. The measurement range is 1-100 Hz, with a measurement bandwidth of 10 Hz and 100 points per decade. A narrow bandwidth and high injection amplitude are necessary to improve SNR at a very low frequency. Then, the sweep completion time is quite long. Is there any way to speed up the measurement time? Is the averaging/signal processing done on the CS320 or the PC side? Will a faster PC speed up the measurement?

Hello Chanwit,
We also think it takes too long, so we have working on a new version of the FRA. It is quite a bit faster. I expect to have a new version up on our website in 2-3 weeks.

The FRA is is done in the PC, and is compute intensive. A faster PC definitely helps.

If you send an email to support@cle..., I will make sure we let you know when it is available.

Hi Bart, Thanks for your feedback. I will try the newest PC first. My loop scans typically range from 1 to 100 Hz for the PFC converter and from 100 to 100 kHz for the DC-DC converter. Scanning a DC-DC converter in the range of 100-100 kHz has not been a significant problem, as the crossover frequency is typically around 5-20 kHz. Scanning a PFC converter is always a problem due to higher ambient noise and a low crossover frequency of 8-20 Hz.

>> Looking forward to the update on FRA. :-)
