Does anyone have any experience of getting the cleverscope software to run in linux under wine? I have attempted to do so but have run into an error. The software throws an error as there in no labview 7.1 runtime engine available.

I also would like to have it run under Linux.
Bart, is it possible to compile the program into a single (static) executable?
That would solve the problem with libraries and runtime engines and it probably would work under Wine.

In recent weeks we have changed the USB driver we use to the National Instruments Visa driver. Apart from integrating better with Labview, it also gives support for ethernet and other operating systems.

I believe it will be easier to run cleverscope directly in linux rather than in wine as that has limited support for usb operation.

The issue with Linux is that NI only supports a few distros - go to http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/35D2B5E483A001A18625716B005BE464 to find out more. It could well work on others but they will not give any support for it.

We have started testing with Opensuse 10.2 but have run into some problems loading the Visa driver which I need some help with - if there is some-one out there who might know something about it! We could provide you with a beta of cleverscope for linux once we have had it running here, before general release. Send me an email if you think you could assist.

I find it disconcerting for a driver to require you to re-compile the kernal but I guess that is part of linux. What it does highlight is that even when we release a version for linux we will not be able to support it any more than NI supports Visa and probably less.

I now have the driver working and can see the cleverscope connected to the USB! Will keep you posted as we get a linux version compiled.

The driver has to match the kernel version installed on an given disribution. Normally, one only has to compile the driver against the kernel include files.

Great! I am really interested in a linux version;-)

I am also very interrested in Cleverscope on Linux.

I have a new Acer Aspire One (150L) running with Ubuntu-Linux (based on Debian).
It is a very small Notebook (or 'Netbook') that fits perfectly to the Cleverscope.

So how is work going on Linux? Is it finished, canceld, beta?

Would be nice if you could inform me how things are going with that. Thanks!

I am starting a new job that will involve a lot of work from home (and my home computers are all Linux systems -- Ubuntu and Gentoo distributions). As a result, I am very interested in how progress toward a Linux version is going. I would be glad to do testing, debug or even coding on the linux driver.

I am not at all familiar with distribution packaging, but I'd be glad to learn if you need help packaging the stuff as RPM and Debian distribution packages.
